In 2022, I was invited by my conducting teacher, Wayne Toews, to compose a work that could be used at his conducting workshop in Saskatoon. The resulting work is based on an unfinished series of chorales that I started during the pandemic. Technically, the chorale takes up the problem of how to interpret and conduct fermatas. However, the spirit of the piece is intimate, haunting, and contemplative.
